About Finca Sophia
Nestled in the mountains near the village of Nueva Suiza in Volcán, Panama, Finca Sophia is a high-altitude farm where time, silence, and nature shape coffees of rare precision. Founded in 2008 by Willem Boot, a pioneering figure in specialty coffee, alongside Helen Russell and David Pohl, the finca was born from a shared vision: to create a place where coffee expresses itself in perfect harmony with its environment.
Finca Sophia evolves in harmony with its ecosystem. Coffee is cultivated there with meticulous care, in the heart of a protected landscape bordering La Amistad International Park. Under the direction of Kelly Hartmann, the farm has incorporated large buffer zones dedicated to biodiversity, allowing local flora and fauna to coexist naturally with the coffee trees.
This respectful approach to living things is at the heart of the finca's identity. This unwavering commitment has allowed Finca Sophia to establish itself as one of the world's leading specialty coffee producers. Its Geishas are regularly recognized at the Best of Panama awards, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship and a constant pursuit of excellence, with notable rankings in the Washed Geisha and Natural Geisha categories in recent years.
