Situated at 2100 masl, the Chelbesa washing station is found in the Yirgacheffe region of central southern Ethiopia. Yirgacheffe translates as ‘the land of many springs’, and Chelbesa is surrounded by 1240 hectares of semi-forest smallholder farms with red‑brown fertile soils and dense vegetation. The area’s unique combination of topography, altitude and water sources, matched with traditional growing and processing practices, produce coffees with beautifully bright, elegant flavour profiles.
Chelbesa is one of two washing stations operated by SNAP Coffee, an export company known for its outstanding farmer support and exceptional coffee quality. Founded in 2008 by Negusse D. Weldyes, the company is focused on consistent processing, accessible training and skill sharing, and strong environmental stewardship. They invest in the future of local communities by providing technology to schools, building roads in remote farming areas, and improving local healthcare access.
Round Hill's import partners Nordic Approach classify Ethiopian coffees according to flavour profile. Burtukaana translates from the local Oromiffa language as ‘orange’, alluding to the round, citric nature of this coffee, with clarity, fruit and character.
