Due to its proximity to Lake Kivu, Kirambo’s climate is cool and stable, making it ideal for coffee production. This facilitates controlling fermentation. The farms delivering cherry to Kirambo are mostly small, family-run plots. Farmers handpick their cherries and often grow additional crops for household consumption. Many maintain only a few hundred trees, making coffee an important but seasonal income. These coffees are processed as fully washed. A disk pulper removes the cherry skin and pulp before the coffee undergoes dry fermentation. After this stage, the coffee is washed and graded. It is then dried on raised beds for 15–22 days.
